Downtown LA goes vertical. A development boom worth $10 billion is remaking the face of downtown Los Angeles. From concert halls to condos, developers have built and transform Los Angeles as a megalopolis. Downtown Los Angeles is slowly but surely amassing cultural weight. In 2002, work was completed on the $190 million Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels, which towers over the U.S. 101, downtown' main north-south artery. A year later Gehry's Walt Disney Concert Hall opened, its shimmering walls billowing like the sails of a clipper ship. Add to that the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art and the $300 million renovation of the granite-and-terra-cotta city hall. On the other side of downtown, meanwhile, work has already started on the $1.5 billion L.A. Live sports and entertainment mega-project by Anschutz Entertainment Group. It will include a 55-story hotel on top of a mall housing a 12-screen movie house, several theaters, nightclubs and shops. L.A. Live will be the equivalent of Times Square in New York. With the Nokia Theater premiere opening next Thursday Evening October 18, 2007, ESPN studio and regional headquarters; several restaurants; Grammy museum schedule to open on October 2008; 123 room Ritz Carlton Hotel and a 878 room J.W. Marriott Hotel will be completed by early 2010. Downtown LA will be the place to be. There are already thirty thousands residents in the Downtown LA with the new developments of high rise condo in and around the Downtown LA. Your commute with be about 15 seconds from the elevator to get to your office. The red line, purple line, blue line, gold line, green line and other mass transit systems will get you anywhere you want to go without using your car. This is the future of Downtown Los Angeles.
