Reichstag - Berlin, Germany

In June 1993, the British Architect Sir Norman Foster was commissioned to restore the Reichstag. Foster kept the original features and functions of the building. He added glass walls, a symbol of the transparency of democracy, and a glass roof and chamber that bring light to the heart of structure. When you enter sections marked by bullet holes and Red Army graffiti have been left exposed in the lobby and corridors as a reminder of the building's turbulent history.
An Impressive architectural statement, to get an inside look at the seat of the German Parliament. It is visible for miles around and has a powerful skyline presence in Berlin.
The new building is self sustaining and nothing is wasted. The water supply heating and electricity for the parliament complex is powered by two engines fired by rapeseed oil, a steam and renewable energy source. Any excess heat generated in the summer is stored for the winter in a brink lake 300M (985ft) below ground. A must see sight if you are in Berlin.
